Black Economic Empowerment and Corporate Social Investment
BVI Consulting Engineers is wholeheartedly committed to the principles of Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment and to responsible and productive Corporate Social Investment.
BBBEE
Our certified BBBEE score is:
Our Scorecards was certified by SERA verification agency.
As a company, we decided to take a proactive approach to BBBEE, affecting a large transaction well before most BEE industry charters came into being.
Our current black shareholding is 45%, well above the level required by the Department of Trade and Industry.
Our first BEE transaction was in 2002 when Uku Consulting Engineers (a 100%-black-owned company) purchased a 30% shareholding. Our second BEE transaction took place in 2006 when a 10% shareholding was injected into a BEE Employee Trust. The object of the trust is to increase the participation and development of technically oriented and qualified PDI (Previously Disadvantaged Individuals) employees in the group – assisting them to develop as entrepreneurs, owners and managers.
As part of our BEE structure, Uku appoints four members to our board, including the chairman. A further board member is drawn from the BVI Employees Trust.
Employment Equity and Skills Development
In addition to the valuable contribution made to skills development through the BVI BEE Employees Trust, we have also implemented our own skills development programme and employment equity policy as part of our broad-based BEE commitment.
In an industry where technically skilled and qualified PDIs are especially scarce, we are proud to declare that over 40% of our staff and 25% of our senior managers are black.
Enterprise Development and Socio-economic Development
As a company, an employer and a corporate citizen, we take a keen interest in the various communities in which we operate. We surpass the compliance targets set by Government in this regard.
